Omnath, Locus of Rage

Omnath, Locus of Rage floating border alter. This was a fun one to do because the dark colors were easy to match. Lots of fun little stuff going on here with flying rocks and the green magical lines.

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord

Next up Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. This turned out to be harder than I thought. I always think of black and dark alters to be easy but this had also the light yellow, dark brown and dark purple that I had to mix correctly.

More alters for my Oloro deck

Today I made 3 new alters for my Oloro deck. About 10-15 cards of the deck are already been altered. Some more difficult than others. I will be posting alters hopefully every week that are new and alters that I've already done weeks or months ago.

Here are the three ones I did today:

Pristine Talisman has only the base color (gray) and the color black. So it was very easy to do. No color mixing at all.

The Swamp took a bit more work. When I was about to be finished with the dark areas of the cards. I realized by bringing the card closer to my work light was that the dark areas are actually dark brown. So the pure black was not the right choice. I had to go back and redo some of the areas. Usually in cards that have dark colors, it's easy to make mistakes so that no one can even see them, even on a table that is quite well lit.

Commander's Sphere was the hardest of the three here. Again the dark colors were easy to mix and paint, but one area that I'm still not happy about is the round table or stand or whatever that the Sphere is lieing on. The color is a bit off and I used too thick paint, so it stands out when watched up close.

About the deck: My Oloro deck is a low budget combo deck. So no Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond combo. At first it was a bit more creature heavy than it is now. Now it's starting to go down the route of Esper Control deck. But still the main win-conditions are very basic life gain combos. The deck is easily disrupted.

Starting up!

Hi!

I've only played the game for about a year, but about 6 months in I learned of altering MtG cards. Since then I've done mostly basic lands but also moved on to more pricier cards since my confidence and skills have since went up.

This was my first ever alter that actually looks even like something decent. At least it looks decent when it's on a table in a dimly lit room on a table with 3 other EDH players.

Now lets take a closer look:

The major problem is, that I used way too much paint and didn't use water at all. The card got a bit thicker and also the texture is all rough and bumpy. This card was done about 6 months ago. Since then I've altered maybe 30-40 cards. Some better than others, but none was worse than my worst card: "Basic Land - Forest".

I made this blog mostly to just showcase my work and write about my progress. Maybe in the future I'll also take commissions and sell my cards when they get good enough. At least I've gotten praises every time I slam a full art altered Island on the table.
